چکیده
Although considered one of the major energy-intensive industries (EIIs), pulp and paper industry has also potential for energy production from an industrial waste, black liquor. This study proposes liquor gasification (BLG) coupled with calcium looping (CaL) as a CO2 capture route industry. BLG H2 (BLG-CaL-H2), gas turbine combined cycle (BLG-CaL-GT) or solid oxide fuel cell (BLG-CaL-SOFC) were considered. The dependence carbon storage (CCS) cost on natural gas, limestone, electricity imported sale prices aside expenditures related BLG-CaL evaluated. CCS route, based CaL retrofitted to plant, was found have lower avoided (39.0 €/tCO2) when compared (48.8–57.1 €/tCO2). Between scenarios, BLG-CaL-H2 presented lowest (48.8 but highest penalty. Based thermodynamic performance, it shown that retrofit BLG-CaL-SOFC best overall turning importer reference plant into exporter. economic sensitivity showed capital requirement strong effect all alternatives. is strongly affected by price while BLG-CaL-GT are dependent price.

gasification (BBLG). One particularly harsh application is linings for gasifiers used in the treatment of black liquor (BL). Black liquor is a water solution of the non-cellulose portion of the wood (mainly lignin) and the spent pulping chemicals (Na2CO3, K2CO3, and Na2S). Development of new refractory materials for the black liquor gasification (BLG) application is a critical issue for imp...
متن کاملPerformance and Preliminary Economics of Black Liquor Gasification . . Combined Cycles for a Range of Kraft Pulp Mill Sizes
The design of a black liquor gasification/combined cycle (BLGCC) power/recovery system requires the selection of a specific gas turbine. There are many different models from which to choose, but with only a fixed set of output ranges that are determined primarily by original design decisions relating to aircraft applications. A perfect match between the fuel requirement of a gas turbine and the...
متن کاملCarbon Dioxide Gasification of Kraft Black Liquor Char in a Laboratory Char Bed Reactor
In the current study a series of pyrolysis and CO2 gasification experiments were conducted on a bed of kraft black char under a perpendicular impinging jet. The experiments demonstrated that the char bed carbon gasification rates are externally mass transfer limited. The mass transfer is further decreased by a net molar out-flow caused by the conversion of one mole of reactant CO2 to two moles ...
متن کاملBinding and desulfurization characteristics of pulp black liquor in biocoalbriquettes.
To control pollutant emissions from coal combustion in some developing countries, biocoalbriquette, an artificially produced solid fuel, was developed. Both the breaking strength and production costs of the biocoalbriquette have become essentially the most important factors in popularizing it in these countries. To increase the breaking strength and decrease the production costs, it is proposed...
متن کاملBiomass Gasification Integrated With a Pulp and Paper Mill – The Need for Economic Policies Promoting Biofuels
In this study we analyse economic policy support for biofuels, with the aim to determine the amount of support necessary to make investments in a gasification based biorefinery producing DME (dimethyl ether) profitable for a pulp and paper mill. As a case the integrated Swedish pulp and paper mill of Billerud Karlsborg is studied, using mixed integer linear programming and different future ener...
